FASS Diesel Fuel Systems is an industry leader in the production of fuel systems with over 20 years of experience in building the “quietest”, highest quality combination of Fuel Air Separation Systems (FASS) and electric diesel fuel pumps available worldwide. Among other advantages, FASS systems: lower emissions, boost horsepower, extend filter life, and increase injection components life and fuel economy.
FASS initially came to us with the need for a new web presence, improved user experience, better conversion rates, e-commerce platform and Search Engine Optimization (SEO), but we soon discovered the need for a foundation to build on – infrastructure improvements, high availability systems, business process optimization, automation needs to complement the digital marketing efforts, and the need to consolidate the myriad of smaller custom-built FASS applications.
Their ambition was to have a wholesome platform that would house their custom applications, content, and E-commerce platform. This would allow FASS to better present content to their dealers and wholesalers, while providing an E-commerce platform to transact to both wholesale and retail customers. Their insight laid the foundation for our challenge: engineering and designing a new wholesome web presence and platform that would house all internal FASS custom applications, content, and finally, migrate their antiquated E-commerce system to a newer platform that better integrates their applications and content.
Our challenge did not end here, as our audit and analysis uncovered complimentary needs required to build a secure solution that would withstand best practices, standards, and provide a competitive edge to FASS.
Working with our insights, we dug deep into the Fuel Filter industry psyche. We profiled FASS, the consumer, dealers, wholesalers, and the competition. We then performed a multi-faceted audit (business processes, technology, and digital marketing) and aligned these with the immediate requirements towards a phase-based execution strategy.
Prior to beginning, it was very important for us to align business goals, technology, and digital marketing, so as to eliminate redundancy in services and products, employee tasks, and increase efficiency in business processes and output.
Our technology audit allowed us to address infrastructure deficiencies that would ultimately lead to improved hardware, performance, and user experience, especially during purchases and transactions in the E-commerce platform.
Our digital marketing audit and analysis allowed us to identify particular areas where data flow and integrations from custom FASS applications were necessary to eliminate manual operations, increase response times, augment follow-ups, and automate inbound marketing approaches. Additionally, with higher conversions and ROI as the focus, the audit allowed us to form a better blueprint for a company-wide digital marketing strategy.
After finishing the design of FASS’ new web presence and content management system, we embarked on the next phase which entailed building a new e-commerce platform. The soon to be old e-commerce system was over 10 years old and inadequate in many aspects. It specifically did not integrate well with the new web presence and CMS system. It was rigid, not customizable, and lacked in usability. This meant lost sales for sure!
Our implemented solution had content at its core, allowing for seamless integration between commerce and content. We built a modular platform to allow integration with custom FASS applications. The resulting storefront was by default optimized to sell more (and more frequently), in line with FASS’ vision.
There are many challenges when migrating applications and data from any legacy system. This was the case with FASS, as their technology ‘stack’ was a decade old, custom, and unsupported. First, we recreated an exact replica of their production environment to allow us to functionally proceed with engineering, test, and simulate all go-live activities (without an effect on FASS’ day-to-day operations). All in all, this type of a project was nothing new to our team. We were able to migrate the data from their database and other heterogeneous sources into a current and supported DBMS system. This task involved careful migration of pertinent e-commerce components and data – FASS products, historical data, orders, and all user (dealers, wholesalers and consumers) data. Thereafter, we re-engineered their custom applications using a new software stack, and integrated this into the newly designed web presence and content management system. The result was one fluid platform for content, custom applications, and E-commerce. Now, there isn’t much of a difference when navigating content on the site, custom applications, or the e-commerce platform.
When FASS came to us, they had unique needs. They did not just want a website, but rather a platform that would be able to handle their content marketing needs, applications, and E-commerce. Due to the content needs, we elected a CMS approach and embarked on this knowing that this would form the foundation for the custom applications and e-commerce platform. We tackled this design phase with the same passion and determination to deliver great customer experience and, ultimately, an increase in organic search traffic. As with all our web design projects, we ensured that the resulting site was SEO-friendly, responsive, and multi-device capable.
Since the launch of the new website and integrated e-commerce system, FASS has enjoyed:
